What is School Readiness?

Starting school is a big step for every child. School readiness means being prepared to succeed in school, not just by knowing how to write their name or count to ten, but by being ready in many other important ways. School readiness includes:

  • Social Skills: Like making friends and playing well with others.
  • Cognitive Skills: Such as problem-solving and thinking creatively.
  • Behavioral Skills: Including listening, following directions, and making their own choices.

How We Prepare Your Child

At Nest, we focus on key areas to help your child get ready for school:

  • Education Basics: Learning the basics like letters, numbers, and shapes.
  • Emotional Readiness: Understanding and managing their feelings.
  • Participation: Being active in group activities.
  • Understanding the Environment: Knowing about their surroundings and their role in it.
  • Building Friendships: Making and keeping friends.
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Solving problems, making decisions, and knowing when to ask for help.
  • Exploring New Ideas: Encouraging curiosity and trying new things.
  • Confident Communication: Expressing themselves clearly and confidently.

Transition to School Program (Final Term)

To foster independence in kindergarten children by teaching essential school readiness skills, such as managing their own lunch and packing their belongings.

Eating from a Lunch Box:
  • Purpose: To help children become familiar with the process of eating independently, which is a crucial skill for school.
  • Activity: Children will practice opening their lunch boxes, eating from them, and cleaning up afterward.
  • Implementation:
    • Parents will be asked to send an empty lunch box.
    • Educators will pack the lunch box with food from the center to simulate a real school lunch experience.
    • Emphasis on hygiene and self-care, such as washing hands before eating and packing leftovers.
Packing Their Own Bag:
  • Purpose: To develop organizational skills and personal responsibility by teaching children how to pack their school bags.
  • Activity: Children will learn to pack their own bags with items such as a water bottle, hat, spare clothes, and any other school necessities.
  • Implementation:
    • Each child will be guided on how to organize their belongings and place their packed bags in their named lockers.
    • Regular practice will be incorporated to build confidence and routine.
